Tranquility. Contentment. Serenity. These are the core experiences of Genge Lake Resort. From the salubrious breezes that caress your body and mind, to the variety of birds that call to you from across the lake, to the sweeping palm branches that continually dance for joy, Genge Lake Resort is designed for the world-weary traveller and the tired-out nine-to-fiver, inviting you to rest, relax, and rejuvenate.
Genge Lake Resort is located about 136km from the Bandaranaike International Airport. It is located on the banks of Nachchiamma Genge, close to the Alli Rani archaeological site. Alli Rani is the “indomitable empress of the Tamil folk tradition” who protected her father’s kingdom with her “martial prowess, intellect and strength.” Local myths have Alli Rani being a mistress of Prince Vijaya, who is said to have founded Sri Lanka; but there is no mention of Prince Vijaya’s relationship to Alli Rani in the book ‘Alliyarasanimalai,’ a more modest Tamil version of the famous Mahabharata. Other legends about Alli Rani abound, including some about fortunes to be made by discovering buried treasure.
The resort is secluded, designed to provide privacy and intimacy. Three spacious yet cozy cabanas are available with decks that overlook the lake. The cabanas are built with wood and coconut palm so as to blend with the rustic environment. They include two double beds, and can accommodate a folding bed if necessary. Each cabana has an attached bathroom with showers that mimic the rain.
Genge Lake Resort welcomes all visitors: the solitary traveller, couples seeking privacy and intimacy, and groups and families looking for a place to relax and unwind. The large dining area and a smaller bar area invite community gatherings for the socially inclined, while the hammocks and rippling swimming pool provide spaces for greater intimacy with nature and each other.
A modern kitchen with amenities is the source of delight for your palates, where local cooks whip up rice and curries, western-style dishes, and if requested, mouth-watering barbeque.
Activities such as whale and dolphin watching, water sports, snorkelling, and scuba diving are available for the more active. Wilpattu National Park and the Alli Rani archaeological site are also nearby for those seeking more adventures.
