Kalpitiya is one of the best spots for dolphin watching in Sri Lanka. Here you can witness countless pods of dolphin frolicking in their natural habitat near the Kalpitiya peninsula, which is commonly known as the ‘Dolphin Line’.  The best time for dolphin watching at Kalpitiya is November to April.

Spinner dolphins are the most common type of dolphin that can be spotted in Kalpitiya, but Bottlenose, Risso’s, and Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphins  can also be seen.  Whale sightings mostly occur during October, March and April.
