During this period of December to March the ocean is blue and calm, perfect for experiencing the underwater world through snorkelling. The bar reef hosts incredible biodiversity: over 156 species of coral and 283 species of fish call this area their home. It is a complex system of reefs that stretches along the coast from the north end of the Kalpitiya peninsula all the way to the islands that separate Portugal Bay from the Gulf of Mannar. It is truly a magical place and an unforgettable experience.
